Flea & Tick Control in Houston
Pet-safe flea and tick treatments with lifecycle-based plans — because Houston never gets a winter to kill them off
Why Houston is a Year-Round Flea & Tick Nightmare
Most of the United States gets at least a brief reprieve from fleas and ticks when winter temperatures drop low enough to kill eggs and larvae. Houston does not. The Gulf Coast's mild winters — where temperatures rarely stay below freezing for more than a day or two — mean that fleas and ticks can complete their entire lifecycle outdoors every single month of the year. For Houston pet owners, this translates to a relentless, never-ending battle that store-bought flea collars and over-the-counter sprays simply cannot win alone.
Houston's humidity compounds the problem. Fleas need relative humidity above 50% to survive, and Houston's average humidity rarely drops below 70%. Shaded areas in your yard — under decks, along fence lines, in garden beds, and beneath dense shrubs — provide perfect flea nursery conditions all year long. A single unprotected dog or cat that spends even a few minutes in the backyard can bring dozens of flea eggs inside on its fur before you even notice the scratching has started.
Ticks add a separate layer of danger. The Lone Star tick (Amblyomma americanum), named for the single white dot on the female's back, is the dominant species across the Houston metro and surrounding counties. It is an aggressive, year-round biter that feeds on humans, dogs, cats, and wildlife with equal enthusiasm. The black-legged tick (also known as the deer tick) is less common in Harris County but is found in wooded areas around The Woodlands, Conroe, and Katy — and it is the primary vector for Lyme disease in Texas. Both species can hitch rides into your home on pets, on clothing after yard work, or even on wildlife that pass through your property.
Why You Need 2–3 Treatments (It's the Lifecycle)
One of the most common frustrations homeowners face is doing a flea treatment, seeing results for a few days, and then watching the fleas come right back. This happens because of flea biology, not because the treatment failed.
The flea lifecycle has four stages: egg, larva, pupa (cocoon), and adult. The adult fleas you see on your pet represent only about 5% of the total flea population in your home. The other 95% — eggs, larvae, and pupae — are hidden deep in carpet fibers, in furniture upholstery, in floorboard cracks, and in yard debris. Pupae are particularly problematic because they are encased in a sticky, waterproof cocoon that insecticides cannot penetrate. They can remain dormant inside that cocoon for weeks, waiting for vibration, warmth, or CO2 from a passing host before emerging as adults.
Our treatment plan is designed around this lifecycle. We apply an adulticide to kill existing adult fleas immediately, along with an insect growth regulator (IGR) that prevents eggs and larvae from developing. Then we return 2–3 weeks later to target the new adults that have emerged from their cocoons — before they can reproduce and restart the cycle.

Our Flea & Tick Treatment Approach
Indoor & Outdoor Treatment
We treat both inside your home (carpets, baseboards, furniture bases, pet resting areas) and outside in the yard — focusing on shaded, moist areas where fleas and ticks breed. Treating only indoors while ignoring the yard is a temporary fix at best.
Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs)
Adulticides kill adult fleas fast, but IGRs are what break the cycle long-term. Our treatments include IGR applications that prevent flea eggs and larvae from maturing, dramatically cutting down re-infestation between visits.
Pet-Safe Products
All products we use are EPA-registered and approved for use in homes with pets and children. We'll walk you through the re-entry timeline (typically 2–3 hours after treatment dries) and any specific precautions for your pets.
Tick Barrier Treatment
For tick control, we apply a targeted residual treatment along yard perimeters, in wooded border areas, and around ground-level landscaping where ticks wait for a host. This creates a barrier that keeps ticks from migrating toward your home and family.
Multi-Visit Guarantee
Our flea plans include scheduled follow-up visits to catch newly emerged adults. If you see continued flea activity between scheduled visits, we return at no additional charge to re-treat.
Pre-Treatment Guidance
We provide a simple pre-treatment checklist — vacuum heavily before our arrival (this stimulates cocoons to hatch), wash pet bedding, and clear clutter from floors — to maximize the effectiveness of each treatment visit.
Our Treatment Process
Inspection & Assessment
We inspect inside and outside to assess the severity of the infestation, identify hot spots (where pets rest, carpeted areas, shaded yard zones), and determine whether you have fleas, ticks, or both. We also check for conditions contributing to the problem — standing water, dense vegetation, wildlife access points.
Indoor Treatment
We treat carpets, rugs, baseboards, furniture bases, and all areas where pets spend time with a combination of adulticide and IGR. We pay particular attention to beneath cushions, inside closets, and under beds — common flea harborage sites that homeowners often miss.
Outdoor Treatment
We apply yard treatment to shaded areas, grass at the perimeter of the home, along fences, under decks, and around shrubs and flowerbeds. These are the primary flea and tick breeding and staging zones in a Houston yard.
Follow-Up Visit(s)
We return 2–3 weeks after the initial treatment to target any newly emerged adults from cocoons the first treatment could not reach. For severe infestations, a third visit may be necessary. Our goal is complete elimination — not just temporary knockdown.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does flea treatment take to work?
Adult fleas die within 24–48 hours of treatment. However, flea eggs and pupae (inside cocoons) are not immediately affected by insecticides. That is why you will continue seeing some fleas for up to 2–3 weeks after the first treatment as new adults emerge. This is completely normal. Your scheduled follow-up visit targets those newly hatched fleas before they can reproduce, breaking the cycle entirely.
Is flea treatment safe for my pets and kids?
Yes. We use EPA-registered products specifically labeled for use in homes with pets and children. We ask that you keep pets and people out of treated areas until the product has dried completely — typically 2–3 hours. Once dry, treated surfaces are safe. We also use targeted application techniques to minimize product contact with food prep areas, pet bedding, and children's play zones.
Why do I still see fleas after treatment?
Seeing fleas after treatment is expected and does not mean the treatment failed. Adult fleas make up only about 5% of the total flea population in your home — the other 95% are eggs, larvae, and pupae hidden in carpets, furniture, and yard debris. As those life stages mature over the following 2–3 weeks, the newly emerged adults will contact treated surfaces and die. A second treatment is almost always necessary to eliminate the full population.
Do I need to treat my yard too?
In most Houston cases, yes — especially if your pets spend any time outdoors. Houston's warm, humid climate means fleas thrive in shaded yard areas year-round: under decks, in tall grass, along fence lines, and in garden beds. Treating only the inside of your home while leaving the yard untreated creates a continuous re-infestation cycle. We offer combined indoor and outdoor treatment packages for the most effective long-term results.
How much does flea control cost in Houston?
Flea control pricing in Houston depends on the size of your home and whether you need indoor treatment only, outdoor treatment only, or a combined package. Most residential treatments range from $150 to $350 per visit, and the typical plan includes 2–3 visits spaced 2 weeks apart.
